Gavin was concerned about getting his cars dirty with paint, but once I assured him that it would wash off, he loved driving his car through the paint and all over the paper.
Designing a Car
One of the favorite books of the week was If I built a Car by Chris Van Dusen. After reading the story the kids imagined what kind of car they would have. We drew the plans and then sculpted them out of playdoh. Ethan wants a 'blue/green' car. Brielle liked the idea of having a swimming pool and snack station inside the car.
I introduced Brielle Chitty Chitty Bang Bang this week. We watched it in 10 minute clips from you tube throughout the week, and actually haven't finished it yet. I remember watching it as a kid and showed the kids how the car was invented to be able to turn into a boat and an airplane. Brielle thought the pirate/bandits were scary, but likes the song.
Playing/Defining Cars
Gavin and Lissy brought over their stash of toy cars, combined with our small collection we were able to go through and find all different kinds of cars, garbage trucks, police cars, an ambulance, mail truck, street sweeper etc.
We'e used these road trip bingo games before (created by oopsey daisey). We played a game of bingo using the colored cars chart. For the younger kids it was simply a color review, for the older kids it was some good math practice. (you have 3 in that row, how many more do you need to get bingo).

How fun! We just listened to Dick Van Dyke's autobiography. We learned that he did NOT want to do that movie. It finally took a 6 figure salary, and an agent telling him he'd be crazy to pass it up, for him to take it. His stipulation was the he not have an British accent. Fun facts on the movie... now maybe I'll have to watch it again.
