In January, the kids had 2 days off school. James still had to stay home for work, but the kids and I took advantage of the break and took a road trip up to the Sacramento area to visit our cousins that had recently moved there.
We drove up on Friday. It's a 6 hour drive. We planned on making some stops along the way, but my kids just wanted to get there as quickly as possible so we made it straight there without any breaks. It helped that we had a rental car so we could eat while we traveled (we don't allow any eating in our own car.) We played games like 'I Spy' or 'Would you rather' to pass the time and had a supply of audio books to listen to. The drive went by very quickly.
The kids loved the time to play games and toys together. We went to the park, went to church together, and had a great time being able to celebrate Nora's birthday.

We stopped for lunch and a treat before hitting the road to head back home. The kids didn't have the excitement to carry them through the trip home, but as it was dark and rainy there wasn't a great place to stop. We had to listen to Preston complain for part of the time, but made it without stops and safely home.
